Jonathan Kaupanger


A California native, Jonathan Kaupanger reports full-time on the Department of Veterans Affairs for

Jonathan joined the Navy in 1987. Assignments as a broadcaster with the American Forces Network took him to Puerto Rico and Italy. While based in Naples, he anchored a weekly TV news magazine for U.S. Naval force members across Europe.

After leaving military service, Jonathan joined the Walt Disney Company, working as a conservation educator on the team that opened the company’s Animal Kingdom Park in Orlando, Florida.

Moving to the Washington, D.C. area in 2000, he worked with trade associations before achieving a life-long goal of becoming a civil servant in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

There he served first as an administrative officer, then managed programs in the office that coordinates continuing education opportunities for VA healthcare providers. He also hosted the Department’s monthly TV news program, The American Veteran – work that earned him an Emmy Award nomination.

Jonathan lives in Virginia with his husband and two dogs.
