John James is a husband, father, Army combat veteran and hopes to become Michigan’s next United States Senator.

While that sounds like something you hear at many political rallies, if James’ recent event sounded more like a rock concert, it’s because it was -- thanks to the endorsement by his friend and supporter Kid Rock.

The Detroit News reported that Michigan native and musician Kid Rock gave James his endorsement at the “Take Back Michigan Rally” on Tuesday. Rock described James as, "the kind of accomplished person outside of politics to beat U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow this fall.”

Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, delivered colorful comments bashing the media, President Obama and how he once toyed with a run for office himself.  "I believe you should be successful before politics rather than using politics to be successful," exclaimed Rock. "I truly believe that John is the best candidate to lead us on this journey."

Riffing on his experience as both a military officer and a successful businessman, James said, "In this country, we do the hard things. In this country, we do the right things ... we need combat veterans on the floor of the U.S. Senate who understand how to keep America safe."

Kid Rock was not the only special guest in attendance at Tuesday’s rally. Retired Navy SEAL Rob O’Neill, the famed trigger man who took down Osama Bin Laden in 2011, also pledged his support.  O’Neill said he wanted to support James after hearing how he went from Detroit to West Point, became a Ranger and then an Apache pilot.

The primary will take place on Aug. 7, 2018. The winner will take on Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow in the Nov. 6 primary.
