Washington — NASA has just posted possibly the best job opening ever: saving the world.

What’s more, it seems perfect for a military veteran.

The Planetary Protection Officer is assigned to the Office of Safety and Mission Assurance for Planetary Protection. Clearly, the right candidate should be prepared to protect earth from aliens.

Duties include “leadership of NASA’s planetary protection capability, maintenance of planetary protection policies, and oversight of their implementation by NASA’s space flight missions. ”  The top secret security clearance job pays $124,000 to $187,000 per year, with a 3-year commitment.

Although it may seem like you’re applying for the Will Smith gig in “Men in Black,” actually you’ll need a strong science background with an advanced degree in mathematics, engineering or physical science.
